Aspen Power Catamarans

June 2010 Summer Fun Newsletter

Hope you are all getting a running start with summer activities. Here in the Northwest, we have been in he wash cycle recently. Snohomish ran a record breaking 26 days of consecutive rain recently. Our lawns have been in overdrive.

Even with this, we are having fun and have had several grand weekends of boating. This past weekend was Aspen's first owners rendezvous at Sucia Island State Park in the San Juan Islands. We had 4 boats and grand weather.

New Options

Jim and Pam Seymour's boat just finished. In the last newsletter, I verbalized many of the new options they had requested. The response from that was very positive and many wanted to SEE the new features. So here goes:

Aspen's First Owner's Weekend

The three day event began with one of those crystal clear blue sky days only possible after you've had a big weather storm blow through the day before; Friday was grand. Four boats gathered at Sucia Island State Park coming from as far as Bainbridge Island, Friday Harbor, and Bellingham. The weekend was a mix of hiking, boat talk , a boat crawl to showcase boat owners rigging ideas and food; lots of food. We also had a grand dinghy tour, but it got very lumpy on the outside. Saturday's grand finale was a casual cruise around the island with the Launch, exploring each cove and anchorage and stopping at the delightful sandstone formations.

We only had two little events; Nick got a lesson in how fast you can roll a kayak and got wet very FAST. Then Saturday, late afternoon, we were b blown inside with gusts to 30+ kts. No rain, but wind we had!!

Sunday was breakfast and a photo shoot with Larry climbing a crumbling clay ridge at the head of Fossil Bay to gain elevation - then straddling that ridge in a 20 kt breeze to shoot photo's as the boats passed.

Desolation Sound - Princess Louisa - July 31 - August 14th, 2010

Trip Plan Detail

This is a two week trip that covers some of the world's most scenic waterways and deepest fiords. We will be department from Bellingham on Saturday morning, the 31st of July, headed for Nanaimo via Bedwell for customs and Ganges for a Canadian grocery store. Sunday morning, early, with the weather right, we will cross the Straits of Georgia (typically 26 miles of big seas) and pull into Garden Bay staying at Fisherman's Resort and Marina. Monday morning, It's off to Princess Louisa Inlet and Malibu Rapids for two days of relaxing in one of the most beautiful fiords in the world. These first 3 days are active cruising days to get up the coast approximately 230 miles.

After Princess Louisa, we come back out of the mountains and then head 30 miles up the coast to Desolation Sound. Desolation is a big bowl with 4-8,000 foot mountains surrounding a group of magnificent islands that include lots of lakes and small rivers or creeks to explore. here, we will spend 7 days at a variety of anchorages. Basically, just gunkholing around and goofing off. The water's warm, the oysters tasty and typically this time of the year the sun is out. We plan to stay at Tenedos Bay, Octopus Island, Priedo Haven, Pendrell Sound and Dent Island.

Our return starts August 11th, departing Preido Haven early, headed for Pirates Cove below Nanaimo, BC. From Pirates cove, we will run to Roche Harbor on San Juan Island's north end to clear customs and have our adventures wrap up party on "Friday the 13th".

As of this writing, we have 3 Aspen C90's and one L90 in and 2 Glacier Bays in; both 34's. Okay, where are you GB 26 guys? Seven made it last time. If this sounds like fun, e-mail Nick for a detailed trip itinerary at nick@aspenpowercatamarans.com.

Summer Specials:
Our partners at Cummins just found 2 more 2009 priced new 150's in their warehouse. If we act quickly, we can secure these and offer an extra $4,000 discount. So, if you're close to buying, give us a call.

Bigger Boats Starting to Percolate

As many of you know, we have planned to build both a 39 and 48 foot aspen over the next few years. I have been holding back on this project until we had the 38'ers running smoothly in production. That's now a reality and as usually, I've got the itch to get onto the next new boat. These last few months, the strength of interest seems to be in the 48 and 3 staterooms and the 39, but a bit smaller or at least at a lower price point that's more midway between the 28'er and the 39'er. If your interests fall into either of these categories, please -mail or call. We will get you on our short list for new specifications as they wrap up. The hull design will be an exact scale up of the current 28'er that is working perfectly.

I hate to tool and build boats that are not just what the market wants and needs. so, well will as we did the the C90, offer a pre-construction price for those launch customers who step up with a deposit based on the prints and renderings. For the C90 pre-sale buyers this amounted to over a 20% savings. The design often has many adjustments based on these first owners needs. To help the project along, Nordic has indicated they are interested in participating in the new boats development as well.

Again, please e-mail or call if you're interested. Nick and I make up the marketing team, so it is difficult for us to call back through the hundreds of customers who have requested Aspen info to determine who are still in the bigger boat market.

That's all for now, hope to talk to you soon.
